As far as I know he does take his medications as he should. He gets really paranoid if he doesn't and jump out of bed in the middle of the night or return home from work to take his medications if he realizes he's forgotten to. I wouldn't say he has alcohol or substance issues. But he certainly likes to drink a beer or two to take the edge off. In his past he had very serious substance problems. He never used needles, but just about everything was fair game. He's been "substance sober" for about 3 years now.
