They've treated me (successfully) for depression, off and on, for years. The more history you or your family have with mental disorders and/or depression, the more seriously they take it, and the more help they give you. Make sure your provider knows about your extremely extensive family history of mental health issues it make a HUGE difference in how you get treated. I've had individual counseling there, as well as a psychiatrist who you briefly every few months or so and write your prescriptions. They basiy act on the recommendation of your therapist and information in your file. Kaiser also has a WEALTH of support groups you can join for short-term or ongoing support women's groups, post-partum groups, death and dying groups, divorce recovery, substance, PTSD support you name it. For the severely depressed/suicidal they even have intensive (all day, every day, for weeks) outpatient therapy ("IOP"). They also offer alternative methods of stress relief and life-balance retraining: courses (Depression I and II in particular help educate you about the "signs" and what, biologiy, is going on in your and effective things you can do to stave it off), courses for your family to help them support you better, light therapy (you can rent the light boxes for a relatively low fee or buy a really good one online for $ -$ ), yoga classes, meditation, relaxation CDs, etc. ALL FOR NO OR LOW COST, with your membership. Take advantage of what Kaiser has to offer. There are SOME limitations to what they can do and I know some of the staff is frustrated with recent cutbacks, but there ARE a LOT of options there. You sometimes have to wait awhile for an appointment, but educate yourself about the resources at your disposal. Ask, Ask, Ask. Pursue, Pursue, Pursue. Go online and login they have almost everything on the web and you can make appointments there now too .. Good luck and let me know if you need more info.
